Drama classes for children
Drama training is an excellent choice for children of all ages. It combines creativity & expression with
discipline & focus.
I have experience teaching 3 to 5 year olds, 5 to 7 year olds, 8 to 10 year olds, 10 to 12 year olds, teenagers & young adults. Each age group has slightly different needs & abilities.
My approach over 15 or more years of teaching has been to encourage imagination, play & spontaneity, combined with respect, concentration & teamwork.
It is important to me that clear lines of theatre ettiquite are drawn & adherred to. Children tend to repond well to this.
Reference is often brought to professional film or theatre so that each exercise we do is driven toward developing a useful, practical skill.
Over the years I have taught hundreds of students. I find I bump into them now as adults, & they still remember classes fondly. Parents still comment how acting training made a lasting difference in the lives of their families.
At a time in our history where computer games & TV are King, drama training provides a welcome difference. Students learn that through a fun attitude coupled with some effort they can achieve amazing results. Rewards are not instantaneous, but are longer-lasting. This develops inner-confidence, & the ability to work with others.
Classes I have held or groups I have worked with are too many to mention - they include tutoring for Donna Clarke Drama Studio, six years as Titirangi Theatre's acting tutor, work with schools including Glen Eden Primary, Glen Eden Intermediate, Keltson Boys & Girls High Schools, & private institutions like the Acorn Academy & the Look at Me acting agency for children.
