Upcoming Courses

Rimu Glade Studio - acting training programme for 2012 with tutor John Goudge.

Enrollments closed for term 2. (check below for term 3 information)

2012 marks the tenth year teaching from Rimu Glade Studio - (4 Rimu Rd Waiatarua). In that time hundreds of adults & children have learnt the craft of acting through these challenging, fun, & effective courses. I take great delight in seeing my students appear on stage or TV using the talents they have developed.

Class sizes are kept to a maximum of 12 students. Each week we progress through the craft of acting, developing our skills of voice, mind & body with 'tried & true'exercises & techniques, as well as intuitive steps honed over nearly 20 years of teaching.

All our work is directed at developing skills needed to perform on the amateur or professional stage, or in film & TV. The side-benefits include an increase in confidence, vocal clarity, & a sense of fun.

General philosophy:

My courses will challenge you at your own level. Experienced & inexperienced actors have worked successfully together in my classes for nearly 20 years. Like anything, you get out what you put in.

I teach practical techniques I have formed & blended from all the tutors, directors & actors I’ve encountered over the last 20 years or more, plus my own thoughts on ‘how to’ & things that have worked for me in my performance.

I often think of acting as a mind sport. Athletes are accustomed to preparation & practice, stretching, visualising,  & trying numerous training methods to keep things interesting. This creates a versatile, strong athlete who can read the game & think on their feet. In a same way an actor’s preparation readies them to play their part ‘in the moment.’ This is the most believable engaging acting, & it is what every actor strives for.

Rimu Glade Studio is a safe place to develop, make mistakes & confront your fears. The small drive up the side of the Waitakere Ranges to the studio provides a chance to unwind from the stresses of school or work. Classes are based on full participation, encouragement, & getting courage by watching the other actors face the same fears that you are.

Coming to classs each week & on time is fundamental to the courses, as is basics of theatre etiquite such as respect for the director & fellow performers.
