Acting Why should I choose to train with John?

Why should I choose to train with John?

Why should I choose acting training classes with tutor John Goudge?
I am an experienced an award-winning director & tutor.  My background gives me a practical view of stage performance at many levels.  Years of teaching has taught me ways of allowing you to unlock your best acting work.

independent—
I do not teach for a franchise.  I stand behind my work because it is my business & my name. I do not get others to tutor for me.

Rimu Glade Studio—
I operate from my own studio set up specifically for my classes without having to make way for other users.  It’s tranquil bush surrounding provides a great place for creativity & getting away from the stresses of work, school & family life.  The studio is also available for use by students for their own private preparation on request without charge.

all encompassing—
I have worked in numerous theatres in many different roles, as well as being a musician, composer & writer.  My look at theatre acting includes lessons taken from multiple perspectives— including how best to be an actor that works well with the director, crew, & fellow actors.

experienced—
I am not an out-of-work actor fresh out of drama school.  I am not a TV actor cashing in on some past notoriety.  I am not someone who teaches without actually having acted in much at all.  I have a CV of upwards 50 productions including great roles such as Shakespeare’s King Richard III.  Tutoring has been my main job for 15 years or so, taking me into many different schools, theatres & institutions, including six years as Titirangi Theatre’s tutor.

gifted—
I trust I have a gift for performing, & for helping others to bring out their gifts.

practical—
The course is fully ‘hands-on’ & based on full participation, not hours of talking.  You will be expected to do your homework.  Everything is geared toward useful preparation methods for auditioning, rehearsing & acting on stage.  Students who have little desire to perform on stage outside of class also gain practical benefits they can enjoy at work & life generally.

very reasonable price—
Adult students have often commented that they get a lot of  bang for their buck, when compared to other weekly classes they have attended.

true compassion—
I have a caring, unique relationship with each one of my students.

professional—
I am organised, prepared, & like to start sessions on time.  Our performances for our invited guests are always of high quality.

performance element—
Each course has a night to look forward to at end of course.  This practical element allows us to simulate preparation for an upcoming play.  We then provide a caring enthusiastic audience who will be delighted to boost your confidence.

ongoing programme—
There is a full programme of courses in 2011 that combine to provide an integrated development over the year.  Students can choose to do one, two or three courses, continuing their development & momentum towards their goals.  (see full 2011 programme below)

safe—
I like to provide an environment where it is safe to be.  Performing requires courage sometimes, & sometimes there are barriers to expression to push aside.  By continuing the studio’s culture of encouragement each student helps to support each other.  Seeing your classmates perform gives courage for you to do the same.

challenging—
Be prepared for anything.  I will find safe ways to test & challenge you at your own level.

habit forming—
Drama training builds a solid base for your acting craft that you can use in future.

life changing—
Students often comment how they become more confident in their everyday lives, better able to respond as work as a team member.  Some find a large improvement in their public speaking & work presentations, or even how they are less afraid to express themselves.  Many join or take a greater part in their local theatre, or find agent for professional TV or film work.  Drama is also a great vehicle for learning discipline, focus, respect & etiquette.

socially excellent—
Many of my former students are now great friends, & many of them keep in touch with their class-mates.  For some theatre opens the way to an environment where they are free to be themselves, & enjoy the company of other interesting people.
