20 May 2010 -

Exhausted after a busy but satisfying 10 day period - 2 gigs, auditions, recalls, and the 1st read thru of 12th Night at the Dolphin Theatre, Onehunga, Auckland - a massive under taking.

Twelfth Night is the Shakespeare play that inspired Feste's song, track 3 on the album Fool Circle. We have a wonderful cast & crew assembled for this one. Seasons begins 31 July.

Had fun playing to a great selection of friends at the Titirangi Library for NZ Music Month, and capped off the week with a boogie at Madison's in Hellensville. A small but enthusiastic crowd braved the cold to enjoy the warm hospitality. After dinner the tables pushed back & the dance moves came out. Good time had by all. Thanks to Cara & Claire at the library, & Iain & Julie at Madison's for their support.

Quick note blog thing from John.

Busy weekend with the auditions at the Dolphin Theatre for Twelfth Night (William Shakespeare) which I am directing. A great turn out of good actors - does my head in having to choose between so many fine talented people .. oh well, thems the breaks... you gotta be in to win.

Progress with the website is continuing but slow.

NZ Music Month gig at the library in Titirangi this week, & a jaunt up to Helensville for a rave up at Madison's. Both are free gigs, so you'd be a fool not to be there.. ha ha. - JG.

ps. buy the album Fool Circle if you want good luck to happen to you!

First blog, April 2010.

There is so much going on!

The album release at Titirangi Theatre on April 3 was magnificent and a sell-out. It was also extremely energy sapping. It's taken me a week to get over it!

The feedback has been awesome and quite humbling.

Of course our music industry complimentaries who were going to attend didn't show up. Neither did the reviewers or the studio people. Why should I be surprised? Sometimes it feels like building a music career is like dismantling the Great Wall of China one brick at a time.

Now to sell the album, build the website, tackle the radio programmers - argh! It's enough to give yourself a permanent lie down! Would much prefer to turn the recording machine on and make new music.

Through this blog you'll keep informed, or annoyed, by my progress into the unknown depths of the music industry. It seems I am destined to try the 'do-it-yourself' approach for a while longer. Mind you, I sincerely love my band and all those friends who helped me launch the album. Their names are Kathy, Graeme, lynn, Ian, Mark, Marie, Rubeun, Jo, Marie & Stan, and of course not forgetting Helen, Rob, Steve, and me mate Johnny.

Thanks too to the kind folks at the Titirangi Community Arts Council, our friends at Go West Music, and the boys at Phantom Billstickers.

Anyways, there should be some cool stuff on this site once it all gets up and running.

come back soon!

love JG.
